After coming back from Taiwan, I realised that there the air quality isn't very good also. In fact, I think currently, the only place where there is clean air is Antartica, but very soon the air there will be polluted as well since an airport and 4km runway has already been built there and planes are scheduled to fly over there weekly from Australia.
All the climate talks that are going on now, I think it's quite useless unless people start to realise that environment is more important economic growth for now. When PM Lee said that it's not very possible for us to give up economic growth for greening of our environment and should try to strike a balance instead, my thoughts were, without environment, all the economic growth will also be a waste. Imagine, you have everything except for a clean environment, every breath you take in = 1cigarette smoked, how long will you survive? So what if you got your handphone, Ipod? Chopping down trees, eventually there will be so little trees left that people will fight to live in a treehouse. Even then, the trees will also die because the carbon level is too high for the tree to take it.
When that day comes, which is pretty soon, all these economic growth will never come into our mind, only then, saving the Earth which has given us everything but we didn't know how to treasure it will be too late. And by researching for new cancer drugs, AIDS drugs, I believe that nature has the cure to everything, since these diseases occur inside the Earth, the Earth is sure to have a cure for it. But by clearing forests, I bet some of the most precious discoveries are lost through the processes.
Prevention is better than cure, why not we stop clearing the forests now and find the remedy from the forests rather than use artificial chemicals known as drugs to treat our body which nature gave us? Use 1 less piece of toilet paper each time you go to the toilet, you can save trees in 1year. Exam papers are also a waste of resources, with computers now, we should try and do everything on computer, instead of using so much paper which are then send to Cambridge by plane which again pollute the air and back again. *sigh*
